#STOPHATEAB Provincial Youth Forum
April 22, 2015
The #STOPHATEAB Provincial Youth Forum, hosted by the Alberta Hate Crime Committee, will engage young people in responding to hate in Alberta. We would like to thank the Department of Justice, Government of Canada for their support to this forum as part of the National Victims of Crime Awareness Week.
Who:
Young people, between the ages of 16-24.
What will we be doing at the forum?
Foster an understanding of hate, its impacts and the important role young people can play in being an active witness
Hear from young people who have experienced hate first-hand
Play an integral role in creating identities and scenarios related to hate which will be incorporated into an interactive smart phone app
Connect and share ideas with youth from across Alberta
Kickstart the #stophateab campaign by engaging in social media and sharing perspectives on hate and inclusion
Watch the 2015 Calgary Hate Crime Awards ceremony and engage with award recipients
Participant Options:
Participants will participate virtually in a half day program from 9 am – 11:30 am. A select number of schools will host local events at this point to present local AHCC awards and foster a conversation with students.

Looking Forward: Human Rights in Alberta

On May 6th, Robert Philp Q.C., Chief of the Commission and Tribunals, will reflect on current trends in human rights in the province and highlight prominent issues that should concern all Albertans. He will consider the future vision for human rights in the Commission and possibilities for meaningful collaboration.
