Arts Showcase & Documentary Screening of:

“YOUTH IN ACTION: The Fight Against Poverty in #YEG”

Sunday, August 30, 4 pm @The Metro Theatre

Join us  as we honour the journey and  true stories of two young individuals involved in JHC’s Youth Action Project in 2014/2015.  The documentary “Youth in Action” explores personal experiences and issues of poverty in Edmonton, following the paths of Stephenie and Brandon.  The film highlights the barriers they face and the strength and passion they possess to make their community a better place.

The Youth Action Project on Poverty (YAP) was an eight month project that brought together young Edmontonians keen on addressing poverty in Edmonton and placed them in a leadership role providing input into the Mayor’s Plan to Eliminate Poverty. Youth met weekly with local service agencies, conducted street outreach, and discussed poverty in Edmonton through a human rights lens. The youth involved in the project gained skills in research and policy development as they built their plan to address poverty in the city. We want to acknowledge the work of ALL the youth and partners involved in YAP 2014 for their commitment, insight and heart. Our work continues...stay tuned.
