#ReligiousPeaceWeekly Series (week 2)
November 27, 2015
Here is another reflection of our #ReligiousPeaceWeekly series!
“I think the perception people have towards Muslim immigrants is that they cannot adapt themselves to the Canadian society and I believe Muslims cannot isolate themselves: there is a way to balance our religious beliefs and practices in order for us to interact with one another harmoniously. Adapting yourself does not mean modifying the religion, it just means being considerate and acknowledging that not everyone shares your beliefs. For example, if a prayer is at 2:00 pm and you don’t have a break till 2:30 pm, don’t make it hard for everyone, wait till 2:30pm. When it comes to people thinking that Muslim women choosing to wear the hijab (veil) are oppressed, I think it’s very far from it, because she gets to choose what part of her body she wants the world to see.” ~ Young Somali Muslim
